January 2020 Meeting

Our first meeting of 2020 and we were entertained with stories of Lois Ann's trip to Germany to visit Kara!  Lots of walking, playing tourist, grocery shopping, eating and a little drinking, beer of course!
Picture on the right is a bag LA got from a convention.  Some type of nucleus!

And each of us received a box of chocolates from Belgium!!!   Thanks, LA!!!!

Some folks do a lot of knitting and LA was the lucky recipient of these items!
The cap is adorable and soft as are the fingerless mittens!

Kendall gave Lois Ann this set of watercolor paints for her BD.  She didn't get to do a lot of drawing/painting  while out of the country but she did draw a few pages for us to enjoy.

Carol also received some nice gifts over the holiday.  Her nephew's friend from Korea gifted her with this lovely book mark (wrapped in the cool paper!) and a beautiful compact mirror!  Thoughtful gifts!
Carol also received this interesting journal from her sister....her sister didn't make it.  Looks like someone put a lot of effort into the book.  Carol is thinking of what she'll do with the pages...either paint over using some of her newly found techniques or taking some of her own drawings and attach to the pages.  She'll do something interesting with the journal.

Pic on the left is the cover and the right are some pages

Carol is continuing with her online drawing/art classes.  These are some pages from her current class with Carla Sonheim, 'Words and Pictures'.

The drawing on the left are words with colors using the 'color blind test' technique.  Pretty clever and well done, Carol!
Carol is also taking another class, but I don't remember the instructor.  They are drawing based on the work of Egon Schiele.  None of us heard of him before but by the time we were done 'Googling' his name and looking at his bio and art work...we know him now!

The first drawing reminds me of a drawing Carol showed us years ago that she had done, I believe, in high school.

If you click on the link above for Egon, you'll see where Carol has certainly captured his drawing technique!

I've been busy working on my beaded cardinal/patchwork piece.  I stitched in the ditch between each strip and now I'm working on adding some embroidery.  This is my favorite part...just improv stitching.

I'm also continuing the beading on my woodpecker.  And hope to start on the background in February.

I bought myself a gift, Jane Dunnewold's book on leaf printing.  It's really filled with lots of inspiration and the instructions appear to be well written.  Lots of alternatives for ingredients.

I also brought in some art books to share with the group.  I'll bring to the next meeting for those who couldn't attend today (Mary and Chris).  You're welcome to keep them or bring back after you have decided you don't want the book.  I can put them in the library book sale this spring.

We met up with Mary at the 15th Street Tavern for lunch.  This is the first time in 14 years I've been around for my birthday so we had a little birthday get together!  Thanks, ladies and thanks, Carol for my lunch!  Burger was delicious!
